For too long, the weakest point of Zipp wheels is the hubs. While the newest generation is notably better, they regressed in durability due to the use of j-bend spokes. Zipp did this to allow for easier serviceability as j-bend spokes are sometimes easier to source than straight-pull spokes.

However, the j-bend is the weakest part of the spoke and is most prone to failure. That's where the "E" comes in in Zipp 303 SE. It's a Zipp 303 S rim laced to a straight pull Syncros hub (rebranded dt swiss 350). Zipp claims the 303S weights are. That rim platform is designed to be the fastest with a 28mm tire. The wide rim optimizes tire profile to allow lower tire pressure. That helps to reduce rolling resistance and provides a more compliant ride. The result of all this is a 10 percent watt savings vs.
